Traditional Music Heritage Project

Since 2015 Nyege Nyege has been committed to documenting and promoting the traditional musical heritage of Uganda worldwide. Traditional music has always been a vital part of the festival and in 2023 the festival will host a dedicated stage to host the growing number of cultural musicians working with the festival.

This initiative has also involved several releases on Nyege Nyege Tapes by such artists as Nakibemebe Xylophone Ensemble from Busoga , Kadodi Performers from Bugisu, Lukeme player Ekuka from Lira and musicians from the Royal Court tradition of Buganda with many more releases scheduled for release over the coming years.

It has also involved countless hours of video documentation of over dozens of troupes, some of which have been uploaded for the first time in the dedicated section of the website that will continue to be updated over the coming months.
