Event Description:
Conveniently located just five minutes from the main festival site, the Fashion Villa is this year’s fashion hub at Nyege Nyege. Here, you’ll find an immersive exhibition exploring Ugandas sustainable fashion and design industry, alongside a fashion marketplace, daily runways, and a selection of food and beverages.

This year, Nyege Nyege is partnering with IGC Fashion and Fashion Revolution Uganda, centring the Fahsion Villa around the Kwetu Kwanza experience. Kwetu Kwanza, a Swahili phrase meaning “ours first”, is a principle that emphasizes the well-being of our planet. This event will feature an exhibition by Uganda’s leading sustainable designers, as well as exclusive talks, workshops, and film screenings celebrating the innovation and cultural significance of sustainable fashion in Uganda. Don’t miss the chance to engage with this vibrant and eduactive experience of fashion.

Kwetu Kwanza Experience Ticket Includes:

    To Uganda’s 5th annual Kwetu Kwanza sustainable fashion exhibit showcasing top designers in an immersive mobile-gallery showcase.  
  2. Daily Workshops
    Led by Kwetu Kwanza designers, where you can create, mend, or alter an item to take home with you! Workshop topics include: 
    • Banana Fiber Weaving – Discover how matooke waste is transformed into fabric in this unique Ugandan textile craft.
    • Natural Dyeing – Uganda is home to over 30 natural colors for textiles, offering vibrant shades without harming the environment. Bring an item and give it new life with sustainable color!
    • Upcycling – Join our mending sessions to turn discarded fabrics and garments into one-of-a-kind creations.
    • Fashion Zine – Create your dream zine with guidance from top Ugandan designers.

      Workshops are open to ALL skill levels! So join us and connect over creative activities and leave with a handmade piece you crafted! 
  3. Film Screenings
    Relax in our cozy cinema space with a selection of African and international short films exploring the intersection of fashion and the environment.  
  4. Panel Talks
    Meet some of Uganda’s top designers as they share insights on topics like circular fashion systems, fashion activism, waste colonialism, and decolonizing fashion.
