1. The feeling of a sudden uncontrollable urge to move, shake or dance.
At the Nyege Nyege international music festival revelers will celebrate on the shores of the river Nile, surrounded by over four acres of lush forest. Two stages with state of the art sound systems will feature over 30 acts from over 12 different countries including world acclaimed UK based Reggae sound system Mungo’s HiFi who will be performing for the first time in Africa. The festival will showcase the best in regional live performances alongside cutting edge international Dj’s like Dj Zhao, Dj Marfox and many more to be confirmed in the coming days. This spirit of Nyege Nyege will encompass more than just music, showcasing afro fusion cuisine and great drinks at local prices, ongoing film screenings and a kids corner.
NYEGE NYEGE – MORE THAN MUSIC
Whilst primarily an opportunity to showcase underground talent from across East Africa together with the opportunity to present cutting edge producers from Europe and the USA to an East African audience, Nyege Nyege will explore more than just music.
Kibanda by Kampala Film school
For the duration of the festival, the KFS Kibanda will host a carefully curated program of hard to find but seminal films and documentaries exploring African and Afro-Diasporan musical heritage. The program will be available soon.
Celebrating the diverse food heritage of East Africa and the world in general will be an integral part of the festival. All too often food at festivals is simply seen as a cash generation afterthought. In collaboration with the team of the prestigious YUJO restaurant, the festival will feature a wide range of original recipes, ranging from East and West African snacks, east African Afro Asian fusion, Thai and Indian curries and delicious barbeque, at very competitive prices.
Boutique Shop & “Kitenge Corner”
A special boutique will be open during the festival, where the artists will make their art available, along with second hand books, and unique clothing items handcrafted by designers from the region. In the “Kitenge Corner” tailors will be available with fabrics from across the continent ready to make a custom piece for anyone wishing to get clothes made during the festival. There will be a strong emphasis on original designs that do not replicate what is already widely available in craft shops across Uganda.
FAMILY FRIENDLY FESTIVAL
Nyege Nyege offers a great opportunity for parents to expose their children to music, but sometimes parents also want to enjoy on their own, and nannies can prove very costly. In order to be recognized as a family friendly festival, Nyege Nyege in partnership with InMovement: Art for social change will organize a mini children’s camp on a separate space in the festival venue where kids between the ages of 6 and 14 can learn skills and enjoy games while their parents enjoy the festival.
